A flyer for a 9/11 National Day of Service Food Drive on September 9th, 2026, from 6-8PM, detailing donation information and needed items.

Our community has an opportunity next week to come together in service and help ensure local children have access to food when they are away from school.

As part of the 9/11 National Day of Service, a community food drive will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 202 W. 19th St. in Kearney.

Donations will support the Kearney Food Pantry’s BackSnack program, which provides backpacks filled with snacks and meals for children to take home over the weekend. Last year, the Kearney Food Pantry provided this support to 110 Kearney School District students in Pre-K through fifth grade.

Among the most-needed donations are granola and cereal bars, individual snack crackers, popcorn and chips, single-serving cereals, Pop-Tarts, mac-and-cheese cups, cups of soup, fruit and applesauce cups, pudding and gelatin cups, hot chocolate packets, juice boxes or pouches, and individually packaged snack cakes or cookies.

Community members are invited to bring donations beginning at 6 p.m. and help sort the collected food while enjoying dessert. Donations may also be ordered online using the QR code on the accompanying flyer.

Thank you to everyone helping care for KSD students and families through this National Day of Service project!
