Great schools and great communities are built by great people who keep learning.

Today, a team of Kearney School District teachers, administrators and instructional coaches came together for professional development focused on highly effective instructional routines that strengthen Tier-One practices for all students.

This learning was led by Michael McDowell, EdD, a nationally recognized educator, author and presenter who has worked with thousands of teachers and school leaders around the world. Dr. McDowell has served as a teacher, coach, principal and central office administrator, and is the author of several books focused on rigorous instruction, project-based learning, leadership and helping students become expert learners.

The focus of today’s work was practical and powerful: building a shared set of instructional routines that can be used across classrooms to help students think deeply, explain their learning, engage with challenging tasks and take greater ownership of their growth.

We are grateful for the KSD educators who spent part of their summer improving their craft on behalf of our students. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes professional learning that helps make excellent teaching and learning possible across our schools.

Thank you to everyone who participated today and to Dr. McDowell for helping our team continue to grow!
