Kindergarten Enrollment Now Open!

Kearney School District’s kindergarten enrollment is open for the 2026-2027 academic year! If you have a child who will be age five on or before July 31, 2026, this is the time to enroll them in kindergarten! Start the kindergarten enrollment process by clicking the link provided below.

  • If you already have a username and password: Enter that information into the windows on the left side of the page to access the Registration Gateway, then click “Add a Student” from the options on the left
  • If you are new to this system: Click the “Registration Gateway” link and then click “Start” on the next screen to create a username and password
  • For assistance with this process: Email reghelp@ksdr1.net

Parents/guardians will be required to provide a birth certificate, a record of required immunizations, and proof of residence for their child during kindergarten enrollment. Use our online district boundary map to locate the elementary school your child will attend.

After completing the enrollment process, one of our Parents As Teachers program Parent Educators will contact you to schedule a kindergarten screening. Parent Educators screen to help KSD plan for classes and the needs of each incoming kindergarten class. Parent Educators will also provide at-home activities and information about summer programs, as well as answer any questions parents/guardians may have.

All families are encouraged to fill out the Online Meal Application Form. Completing this form allows families to qualify for free and reduced meal prices and also allows KSD to potentially become eligible for additional academic resources and funding.

Kindergarten Orientation events will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at each of KSD’s elementary schools. Stay tuned for details. This is an opportunity for families to receive helpful information about KSD, tour their school and meet their child’s teachers and building principal. We’re excited to welcome the Bulldogs Class of 2039!

KSD Board of Education Meeting Recap (March 18, 2026)

The Kearney School District Board of Education’s March 18, 2026, business meeting highlighted student achievement, innovative family support work at the Kearney Early Education Center, important district updates, and several significant action items related to facilities, student support, technology and enrollment systems.

The meeting’s School Spotlight featured the Kearney Early Education Center, which showcased its Bitty Bulldogs Clothing Closet and the upcoming Developmental Toy Lending Library. The clothing closet provides a wide range of items for families with young children, including clothing from newborn through age 5, seasonal gear, shoes, diapers, toiletries, household supplies, bedding, and more. District leaders noted that the effort has grown through strong support from staff, families, community donors, the Kearney Optimist Club, and community partnerships. They also shared that the toy lending library grew out of a parent need and is being developed to expand support for families even further.

Board members also recognized outstanding student accomplishments in Cheer Stunt, Boys Swim and Dive, Girls Swim and Dive, Boys Wrestling, and Girls Wrestling. Notes from the meeting reflect strong praise for the grit, perseverance, and competitive success shown by those student groups this season.

Among the district updates, staff reported that final decisions on the remaining 2022 bond work are being slowed by the complexity of the Southview Elementary roof project. While that design work continues, the district plans to move forward with flooring work at Hawthorne Elementary and Kearney Elementary.

The board also received the Special Education/ECSE program evaluation, which showed several encouraging outcomes. District leaders reported that 425 students are currently served through IEPs and 202 students are eligible under Section 504, with the combined IEP and 504 population representing 18.15 percent of KSD students. They also highlighted a 0% dropout rate for students with disabilities in 2024-25, a 92.3 percent four-year graduation rate for students with disabilities compared with 82.3 percent statewide, and 90.9 percent of 2023-24 graduates with disabilities were either employed or continuing their education. In addition, KSD’s students with IEPs have outperformed the state in both ELA and math proficiency over the last three years, and all ECSE students made growth on key performance indicators.

Bulldogs Show Their Theatre Talents at Districts

Kearney High School Theatre students represented our district with creativity, poise and heart at the MSHSAA Class 1 District 8 competition on Tuesday, March 17, at Excelsior Springs High School.

Competing in one of the state’s toughest districts, our Bulldogs delivered strong performances in both categories. Kearney’s Reader’s Theatre, *Happy Birthday," with an original script written by KHS Theatre Director Haley Kernes, earned third place out of seven entries, finishing just one point shy of advancing to state. The department’s one-act production of *Anne of Green Gables* placed fifth out of nine outstanding performances.

Support the KHS Baseball Team at Community Cornhole Fundraiser!

The Kearney High School Baseball team is asking for a strong Bulldog turnout this Sunday, March 22, at Kearney High School for their big community cornhole fundraiser!

Registration begins at 2 p.m., and the first bags will fly at 3 p.m. Entry is $50 per person, which includes tournament participation plus a ticket for refreshments. This is one of the team’s biggest fundraisers of the season!

The Bulldogs are still looking for more teams, and this is a great opportunity to support our student-athletes while enjoying an afternoon of friendly competition, good food and plenty of fun.

KHS FCCLA Excels at State Leadership Conference

Kearney High School’s FCCLA students represented Bulldog Nation with excellence at the 2026 FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Springfield.

A special congratulations goes to Kelleigh Andell and Ava Mayse, who earned 2nd place out of 19 teams in Interior Design Level 3 and received an invitation to nationals. Their project was an impressive, college-level capstone effort and a tremendous example of the kind of world-class work our students are capable of producing. Both students received invaluable and extensive interior design expertise and guidance from KHS Family & Consumer Sciences Teacher and FCCLA Advisor Kathryn Cash.

We also want to recognize Harper Harris, who competed in Professional Presentation Level 3. While she did not place in the top five this year, she took on a new challenge, stepped outside her comfort zone, and represented KHS with courage and poise. That kind of growth matters, and we are proud of her for embracing the experience.

A big thank you as well to Sloan Glenn, who served as a youth consultant, helped judge competitive events and also represented KHS as a voting delegate. Her positivity, leadership and willingness to serve helped make the trip even more meaningful.

“We are small but mighty, and we are so proud of our girls,” said FCCLA Advisor Kassidy Robertson.

Congratulations to these outstanding students and to Mrs. Robertson and Ms. Cash for helping lead such a successful showing at the state level. We are excited to cheer on Kelleigh and Ava as they prepare for nationals.

Southview Fourth Graders Bring Science to Life Through Mini-Golf Project

Southview Elementary fourth graders recently turned science lessons into a hands-on Project Based Learning experience that was equal parts creative, collaborative and fun.

As part of their force and motion unit this quarter, the students explored balanced and unbalanced forces, friction and energy transfer. They then applied that learning in an innovative and engaging way, according to teacher Michelle Raines,

“They wrapped up by designing and building a mini-golf course," she said. "Then we invited our first grade friends to come and try out the course.”

That final step made the experience even more meaningful, giving fourth graders the chance to share their work with younger students while showing just how much they had learned.

This was a wonderful example of Project Based Learning in action at Southview and all of Kearney School District's elementary schools. Students didn’t just study scientific concepts. They used them to design, build, problem-solve and create an experience for others. We are proud of our fourth graders and grateful to our teachers for creating learning experiences that are both engaging and memorable.

Students Experience Learning by Trial

A group of Kearney Junior High and Kearney High School students recently took part in a Mock Trial experience that proved beyond all doubt the value of public education.

For more than two and a half months, students met at least once a week to prepare for The State of Louisiana v. Patricia Post, a fictional second-degree murder case built around the alleged killing of Patricia Post’s ex-boyfriend, David Bask. By the time trial day arrived, students were ready to step into a wide range of roles, including attorneys, witnesses, jurors and court personnel.

The experience challenged students to think critically, communicate clearly and work collaboratively as they prepared opening statements, questioned witnesses, presented testimony and examined evidence. They also engaged with written, verbal and digital evidence as they built their cases and worked through the trial process with remarkable focus and maturity.

Kearney Elementary Scholars Bring Missouri History to Life

On Tuesday, March 10, Kearney Elementary third-graders transformed their learning into something truly memorable through a Wax Museum Project Based Learning experience that brought famous Missourians to life.

With impressive care and creativity, students researched notable figures from Missouri history, designed display boards filled with important facts, wrote scripts and dressed in costume to portray the people they had studied. When visitors pressed the “button” on a student’s hand, each young historian came to life to share what they had learned.

The museum featured an outstanding range of Missourians, including Walt Disney, Harry Truman, Molly Brown, Laura Ingalls Wilder and Josephine Baker. Beyond the costumes and presentations, the project asked students to think deeply, read closely, write clearly and speak with confidence, all while making meaningful connections to the lives and legacies of people who helped shape our state and nation.
