Students Training in Academia, Health, and Research (STAHR) is a collaborative effort of the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, and School of Pharmacy, and aims to support students’ success as they work to become health professionals. The STAHR Scholars Program provides students with opportunities to prepare for a future career in health. 

As a STAHR Scholar, you will grow personally and professionally throughout the upcoming year. Participation in the STAHR Scholars Program is free, and students who complete the program are eligible to receive a stipend.  

From June 8-July 17, 2026, in the 6-week summer experience, you will: 

• Take a deep dive into the field of dentistry, medicine, or pharmacy, or explore all three
• Experience your future health career through clinical shadowing with practicing health professionals
• Participate in health-related university research to gain first-hand experiences in lab settings
• Develop and bolster admission materials for your applications to college and health education programs

From August to April, following the summer experiences, students will have the opportunity to:

• Receive coaching and mentorship from current health professional students, faculty, and UMKC staff
• Participate in opportunities for community service and/or healthcare-related experiences
• Continue developing application materials and skills to increase your competitiveness
• Connect with a broad array of individuals and resources to help support your path to your healthcare career
